Custard Rolls with Orange Glaze

These rolls are Amazing!
If you are hungry for something similar to Cinnamon Rolls then look no farther!
Jack and I L-O-V-E theses!
Here is what you will need for the Custard:
2 egg yolks
1/3 c sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
In a small sauce pan bring 1 1/4 cups milk to simmer.
While milk heats lightly beat the egg yolks.
Then stir in the sugar, cornstarch, milk, and salt.

Once the milk is heated, stir half of it into the egg mixture.
Then mixed together and add the mixture back into the sauce pan.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a gentle boil.
Then cook and stir for 2 minutes more.
Remove from heat.
Stir in 1 tablespoon butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
(Mixture will be thick)
Transfer custard to a 2-quart baking dish.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill while you make the dough!
For the dough you will need:
4 1/2 to 5 cups flour
1 package active dry yeast
1 cup milk
1/2 water
1/3 cup butter
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 golden raisins(optional)
In large mixing bowl stir together 2 cups flour and yeast; set aside.
In small saucepan heat and stir together the milk, water, butter, honey, sugar, and salt
just until warm(120*F or 130F*) and butter has almost melted.
Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients.
Then add the egg and vanilla.
Beat mixture on low to meduim speed for 30 seconds, scraping the sides of the bowl.
Then beat on high for 3mins.
Then add raisins(I chose not too) and as much of the remaining flour as you can.
Transfer dough to a large bowl, cover and let dough rise in a warm place until double in size(about 45mins).
Once dough is ready, punch down middle and transfer to a well-floured surface.
Roll the dough flat into a rectangle that's about 1inch thick.
Next it's time to pull the Custard out of the fridge!
Throw it in the microwave for 15-30 secounds
until it's easy to stir.
Once your custard is ready
spread it evenly over the dough.
Then starting for the long side, begin rolling!
Once your dough is rolled, start slicing!
I prefer to use a piece of thread.
But you are welcome to use a knife.
Place your rolls on a greased extra-large baking sheet.

Next you will want to cover, and let rise in warm place until they are double in size(30mins).
Or like me, you can refrigerate them over night and in the morning let rise before baking.

While your rolls are rising preheat your oven to 375*F.
Then bake about 20mins or until golden brown.
Here is what you will need for the Orange Glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
4 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon butter.
While your rolls are baking combine in a saucepan the powdered sugar, orange juice(yes, I did make the juice first! I just used the concentrate juice for the picture), and butter.
Heat over medium until warm and smooth.
Then stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and use immediately!
I hope you enjoy these wonderful Custard Rolls!
We love them here!
Well, you better hurry since it ends later today!

Till Next Time,
Kate
